London – Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta expressed his satisfaction following his side's emphatic 4-1 victory over Bayer Leverkusen. The Spaniard highlighted the team's impressive performance and identified numerous positives to take from the match.

While acknowledging the strong showing, Arteta emphasized the need for continued improvement, particularly after introducing seven substitutes. He viewed the match as a valuable test against a well-organized opponent.

Arteta provided updates on the absences of Jurrien Timber and Riccardo Calafiori. Timber was sidelined due to slight leg discomfort, while Calafiori is still adapting to his new surroundings at Arsenal. The manager expressed optimism about Calafiori's potential involvement in the upcoming weekend's match, stressing the importance of ensuring both physical and mental readiness.

The presence of key players like Bukayo Saka and Declan Rice was deemed crucial for Arsenal's preparations. Arteta underlined the need to manage their workload carefully to maintain peak fitness ahead of the demanding new season and the upcoming European Championships.

"The passion and enthusiasm of the two players is an indication of their readiness. I believe the players will tell me when they are ready to play again," said Arteta in his statement at Arsenal, Wednesday (7/8/2024).

Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly also caught the eye with impressive performances. Arteta indicated that he would continue to provide opportunities for these young talents as long as they consistently demonstrate the necessary qualities for top-level football.

The burgeoning partnership between Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz has been a positive development. Arteta expressed delight at the natural chemistry between the two strikers, which has been further enhanced by the influence of Leandro Trossard.

"Kai and Leo's ability to work well together is a great asset for the team. I see this combination as a strategic option that can continue to be developed, especially on the left side of the team," said Arteta.

Arteta expressed his pride in Gabriel Jesus who showed his best performance again. He emphasized the importance of consistency in Jesus' performance in various match situations.

Despite transfer rumors regarding Eddie Nketiah, Arteta insists there is no discussion regarding a move. Arteta also stated that all players, including Aaron Ramsdale, must compete for playing time.
