Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi has shared the latest news regarding the mega-projects, including the Light Rail Transit (LRT) in Bali and the High-Speed Train (Whoosh) extending to Surabaya. Budi Karya mentioned that he is currently negotiating with Korea for the Bali LRT project and preparing a proposal to be submitted to China for the High-Speed Train project.

"We are in discussions with Korea about the LRT in Bali. We are also working on a proposal for the High-Speed Train from Jakarta to Surabaya," Budi Karya stated during the Evening Up program on CNBC Indonesia, quoted on Wednesday (31/7/2024).

Regarding the Bali LRT, Budi Karya revealed that the project will be constructed underground. Discussions with potential investors from Korea are ongoing. The LRT project, estimated to require an investment of approximately 876 million USD or 14.19 trillion IDR, will be built with a track length of about 6.04 kilometers.

"We are working on the Bali LRT project, but it will be underground. We have been talking with several investors, including those from Korea," he said.

Other major infrastructure projects that the Ministry of Transportation is pursuing include the continuation of the Patimban Port development in Subang, Jakarta MRT Phase II from Bundaran HI to Ancol, and the East-West MRT from Cikarang to Balaraja. There is also the development of a new port in Palembang.

"Patimban Port is being continued, and we are negotiating the MRT extension to Ancol and towards the East-West direction," he added.

"The Palembang Port project is in the design phase, and we just need to appoint the implementing agency for the next government. The port in Palembang needs to be rebuilt due to sedimentation," he noted.

When asked if he would continue as Minister of Transportation in the Prabowo-Gibran era, Budi Karya firmly stated that he would continue with the established blueprints. If not, he emphasized leaving behind several ongoing projects.

"If I continue as Minister of Transportation, I will be consistent with the development work we have laid the groundwork for. If a successor takes over, we have already set important foundations, namely safety and service. Hopefully, what we have worked on will benefit the public," he concluded.
