Today, Wednesday (August 7, 2024), Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) inaugurated a lithium battery anode material plant owned by PT Indonesia BTR New Energy Material in Kendal, East Java.
This plant will position Indonesia as the largest anode producer in the world. Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, explained that the investment by PT Indonesia BTR New Energy Material could propel Indonesia to become the world's largest anode producer.
"The plant has a capacity of 80,000 tons, sufficient to produce 1.5 million electric cars. They plan to complete phase II by March 2025, bringing the total production to 160,000 tons," he said.
"With this capacity, Indonesia will become the second-largest producer in the world. The plant in Japan has a capacity of 10,000 tons, South Korea 40,000 tons, and the largest is in China with 100,000 tons, so we will surpass China in the near future," said Luhut.
