SMEs And Tourism Benefit, Here Are The Impacts Of Hosting The World Water Forum 2024 in Bali

The 10th World Water Forum (WWF) in 2024 was held in Bali from May 18-25, 2024. This international event was attended by various countries and stakeholders to discuss and find solutions to various water-related issues.

Regarding this matter, Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy/Head of the Tourism and Creative Economy Agency (Menparekraf/Kabaparekraf) Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno presented the latest data from a survey that calculated the impact of hosting the event on the tourism and creative economy sectors during its duration.

During "The Weekly Brief With Sandi Uno" on Monday (6/3/2024), he mentioned that the average length of stay for tourists, namely delegates, was 8 days, with foreign delegates staying for 8.7 days, longer than Indonesian delegates at 7.1 days.

Based on the survey conducted by the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy along with the Center for Economic Industry, Services, and Trade Research (BRIN), the average expenditure per visit reached Rp38.8 million or equivalent to 2,427 US dollars.

"The highest expenditures are in accommodation, participation fees, food and beverages, and domestic flights. This means that delegates also travel to several destinations after leaving Bali," said Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga.

This survey involved 446 respondents with a margin of error of 5 percent and a confidence level of 95 percent. From this number, it was also revealed that the majority, more than 90 percent of respondents, planned to revisit Bali and recommended Bali as a tourist and business destination.

SMEs benefit up to 50 percent The implementation of the World Water Forum 2024 also had a positive impact on Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), especially those located around the venue or within a radius of 1.4 kilometers. They experienced an increase in sales volume and revenue ranging from 21 to 50 percent.

"The World Water Forum not only boosts the economy but also promotes the wisdom and local culture of our water management on the international stage," said Sandiaga.

Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga revealed that the hosting of the World Water Forum 2024 in Bali not only provided positive local impacts for Bali as the host, but also managed to stimulate national economic activities.
