Commemorating 50 years of diplomatic relations with Fiji, Indonesia donated medical equipment worth FJD 428,000 or approximately IDR 3.1 billion. This grant serves as a testament to the longstanding friendship between both sides over the past half-century.
According to the official website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, some
of the medical equipment provided includes electric bed dedicated for hospitals, electric
wheelchairs, examination tables, medicine trolleys, and emergency carts.
Indonesian Ambassador to Fiji, Dupito Simamora, symbolically handed over all
the healthcare equipment to Fiji's Minister of Health, Ratu Antonio Lelabalavu.
"As Fiji's development partner, Indonesia is committed to supporting
Fiji's priority development issues, such as in the healthcare sector. This
collaboration embodies solidarity, friendship, and closer relations between our
governments and peoples. Moreover, it aligns with our shared goal of mutual
support towards achieving the SDGs by 2030 at global, regional, and national
levels, particularly SDG3 on good health and well-being," Ambassador
Simamora stated.
Indonesia has fostered a friendship with Fiji since 1974. Initially, the
Indonesian Embassy was located in Wellington, New Zealand. However, in 2002,
Indonesia established its embassy in Suva, Fiji.
Agreement to Support SDGs 2030
In efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030,
Indonesia is determined to continue supporting Fiji's priority development
issues, including in the healthcare field.
The collaboration between these two countries also demonstrates strong
solidarity and friendship between Fiji and Indonesia, encompassing both
governments and their peoples. Additionally, Indonesia highlights the global
health and well-being targets of SDG3.
Ratu Antonio Lalabalavu expressed gratitude for the donation, emphasizing
its significant impact on the lives of Fijians. He also noted that this aligns
with Fiji's Ministry of Health's vision to achieve physical well-being among
its population.
"This morning, we witnessed the generosity and ongoing support from the
Indonesian Government to the people of Fiji through the grant of much-needed
medical equipment for delivering healthcare services to Fijians," he
remarked.
In addition to providing medical equipment, the Indonesian Embassy in Suva also organized other activities, such as a fun walk, attended by 300 participants including diplomatic officials, Fijian government officials, Indonesian scholarship alumni in Fiji, local students, and Indonesian community members in Fiji.
