The National Library of Indonesia (Perpusnas) has partnered with two libraries from Russia for collaboration. These libraries are the Federal Budgetary Institution "Margarita Rudomino All-Russia State Library for Foreign Literature" and the National Library of Russia. This initiative aims to exchange information and experiences to enhance library services for the public.

Key Point

  • The partnership between these two amicable nations also seeks to promote cultural exchange through collaborative services and the exchange of library materials.
  • Potential follow-up programs between the two libraries include exchanging information and expertise in library and information management, as well as information technology.

Acting Head of Perpusnas (librarians), E. Aminudin Aziz, stated that the collaboration with these two foreign libraries aims to establish a broader network. He hopes that the National Library of Indonesia can be included in the institutional map of other foreign libraries. In this bilateral cooperation, all Perpusnas (librarian) employees are expected to have numerous opportunities to participate in the global library network.

"In essence, it's about exchanging information, ideas, and experiences to provide greater benefits to the community," Aziz explained.

Collection Efforts of Indonesian Materials Worldwide

Regarding the cooperation with the Federal Budgetary Institution "Margarita Rudomino All-Russia State Library for Foreign Literature," this involves efforts to collect Indonesian and Nusantara manuscripts existing worldwide.

Meanwhile, Acting Head of the Federal Budgetary Institution, Maria V. Belokolenko, expressed hopes to organize online literary seminars between the two countries.

The Russian library was established in 1921 and named after its founder and first head librarian, Margarita Ivanovna Rudomino. It holds over 4.5 million collections in 154 foreign languages, built since 1922.

Interestingly, among the numerous collections owned by the Russian library, there are 2,600 collections in Indonesian, primarily publications from the 1960s to 1980s. Additionally, there are 554 collections related to Indonesia in various languages worldwide, including English, Russian, German, Dutch, French, and Japanese.

The collaboration between these two friendly nations also aims to introduce culture through cooperative services and library material exchanges.

Forms of Collaboration Between the Two Parties

The National Library of Indonesia and the National Library of Russia have several similar programs, some of which are planned to be followed up together.

Potential programs for follow-up between the two libraries include exchange of information and knowledge in library and information management, as well as information technology. Additionally, there are programs for staff exchange and visits, exchange of library materials, seminars and exhibitions, among others.

Through this cooperation, the National Library of Indonesia also gains new insights and comparisons that can be applied, such as enhancing the quality of library material deposit management, library services, and technology implementation.
