VinFast – a member of Vingroup – has a vision to drive the progress of the global smart electric vehicle revolution. Founded in 2017, VinFast has a state-of-the-art automotive manufacturing plant with an automation level of up to 90% and world-class facilities located in Hai Phong, Vietnam.

The name VinFast is an abbreviation of the Vietnamese words:

  • Phong cách (Stylish, Ph=F)
  • An toàn (Safety)
  • Sáng tạo (Creativeness)
  • Tiên phong (Pioneer)

Stuart Tailor, Deputy CEO of Electric & Electronic, emphasized that the VinFast manufacturing facility represents more than just a factory; it symbolizes a revolutionary force in the automotive industry. Beyond its domestic roots, this facility embodies VinFast's global ambitions, evident in its expansion into the United States and Canada, as well as its successful penetration of the Indonesian and Thai markets.

Aligned with its mission of "Sustainable future for everyone," VinFast remains dedicated to innovation. This commitment translates into delivering top-tier products, sophisticated services, seamless customer experiences, and inclusive pricing strategies. By doing so, VinFast aims to inspire global consumers, particularly in Indonesia, to join in exploring boundless possibilities for a modern, eco-friendly, and sustainable future in transportation.

VinFast's trajectory is notably swift, established under the auspices of Vingroup, Vietnam's largest real estate company. Vingroup set forth an ambitious plan in 2017 to manufacture 500,000 vehicles in Vietnam by 2025, marking a significant leap from their automotive debut in 2018. Collaborating with General Motors (GM), VinFast utilized GM's facilities for production and gained exclusive distribution rights for Chevrolet vehicles in Vietnam.

Further fortifying its industry position, VinFast partners with leading automotive experts such as ABB, Bosch, General Motors, Magna Steyr, Siemens, and BMW, alongside renowned design firms Italdesign and Pininfarina, to innovate on car platforms and design aesthetics.

VinFast secured a loan amounting to US$ 800 million from Credit Suisse Group, part of which was allocated to construct an assembly facility in Haiphong. This factory manufactures both gasoline-powered and electric vehicles intended for domestic and international markets.

Situated advantageously near the international port of Lach Huyen, the Haiphong facility stands to benefit from its ability to accommodate large-tonnage ships, facilitating the export of VinFast vehicles worldwide, including to North America and Europe.

VinFast specializes in producing city cars, sedans, SUVs, and electric vehicles, demonstrating boldness in expanding its product offerings globally despite its relative youth in the automotive industry.

Presently, the VinFast Haiphong factory boasts a production capacity of 250,000 units per year. Looking forward, by 2026, the company aims to scale up production significantly, targeting an annual output of 600,000 units.

Presidential Chief of Staff Moeldoko revealed why Vietnamese electric car manufacturer VinFast chose Subang to build its factory in Indonesia. The location supports the construction of an electric vehicle factory.

"Subang is a very strategic area. There is an airport not too far away, a nearby port, and a toll road that connects to Jakarta and Cirebon. This makes the area very promising. Because of this, many car industries are coming to Subang," said Moeldoko at the VinFast Groundbreaking Ceremony in Subang on Monday, July 15, 2024.

Meanwhile, Putu Juli Ardika, the Acting Director General of the Metal, Machinery, Transportation Equipment, and Electronics Industry (ILMATE) of the Ministry of Industry, addressed the issue that Subang was the final option for the VinFast factory. Initially, the plan considered locations in Karawang and Cikarang.
