Kemayoran Airport, once Jakarta's primary aviation hub from 1940 to 1985, played a significant role in Indonesia's aviation history before being superseded by Soekarno–Hatta International Airport. During World War II, it served as RAF Kemajoran, witnessing pivotal moments in air warfare. Over the years, it welcomed a variety of international airlines and aircraft, including Douglas DC-8 jetliners, Convair 880 jets, and Boeing 707 jetliners, connecting Jakarta to global destinations. However, in 1985, its flight operations ceased, marking the transition of domestic flights to Soekarno-Hatta Airport. Despite its closure, Kemayoran Airport's legacy lives on in urban planning discussions, with former runways transformed into boulevards and green spaces evolving into the Jakarta International Exposition Center and Kota Baru Bandar Kemayoran. While remnants of the control tower and main terminal remain, redevelopment plans have faced challenges, with some projects halted due to economic downturns. Nevertheless, Kemayoran Airport's memory endures as part of Jakarta's rich historical landscape.
